Space race: New retail supply falls 57% as brands compete for fewer stores

New retail space supply in India's seven major cities fell significantly year-on-year. Gross leasing of retail space stood more than four times the volume of new space completed. This supply crunch pushed mall vacancy rates down to 6.7 percent. Retailers face challenges finding suitable spaces to serve their customers. Construction delays and land constraints contribute to this market imbalance.
