Overview

The Catholic Church faces a serious man-crisis. The majority of baptized Catholic men are not active in their faith, and many parishes have little in place that specifically addresses men’s lives. At the core of the problem is that most men do not personally know Jesus Christ. For many, Jesus is a distant figure from history rather than a living Lord and friend. Because of poor catechesis and lack of formation, men often drift into being Casual Catholics, attending Mass rarely or only out of obligation to family. With no clear, masculine, and faith-filled offerings in the parish that speak directly to their needs, many men disengage, leaving a gaping hole in the life of the Church.

In response, beginning in 2006 a small group of men began to gather to strengthen one another in faith. Their idea was simple and parish-based: gather men together, talk about Christ, enjoy some food (sometimes meat, fire, and camaraderie), and invite them to grow in discipleship. This led to the development of what has become known as Every Catholic Man Night, with a clear, consistent, and priest-led model for drawing men to Jesus. The approach was built on Acts 2:42: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (Acts 2:42, RSVCE). At each gathering, men come together for Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, fellowship around a hearty meal, and solid teaching about Jesus Christ. The purpose was and remains simple: to better know Jesus and to imitate Him in daily life. Over the past two decades, this straightforward formula has been repeated and refined, becoming a trusted method of evangelization that any parish can implement.

The Holy Spirit has greatly blessed and expanded this work. What began with a small group has grown into a movement that has reached tens of thousands of men across the country. Parishes have adapted the model to their unique needs while remaining faithful to its proven structure of prayer, teaching, sacraments, and fraternity. In recent years, the effort has grown beyond simply drawing in those who attend parish events. Every Catholic Man Night emphasizes regular outreach—through digital means like Flocknote, email, and text—to reach every man in the parish, regardless of their current level of engagement. This expanded model continues to help men personally encounter Jesus Christ, grow in holiness, and strengthen parish life by forming Catholic men into committed disciples and brothers in Christ.
